Deepening Our Commitment to Students in Ethiopia

As we enter our second year of student sponsorships in Ethiopia, FPC Bristol is joyfully renewing our commitment to the children of Berhane Yesus Elementary (“Teaching in the Light of Jesus”) and Bethel Evangelical Secondary School (“Where Christ Directs Learning”).

Last year, your generosity opened classroom doors, placed textbooks into eager hands, and provided safe housing for vulnerable students. Because of you, children who once faced overwhelming barriers were able to learn, grow, and thrive. This year, our partners in Dembi Dollo have shared an even greater need—and we are poised to meet it with faith, compassion, and purpose.

Why Your Continued Support Matters

As the September school year approaches, more students than ever are seeking access to education. Many come from families who cannot afford even modest tuition. Others have been orphaned or displaced, or face persecution for their Christian faith. For these students, BESS’s boarding program is not only a school—it is a refuge, a community, and a path toward a hopeful future.

Your renewed support ensures that students who began their education last year can continue without interruption, and it allows us to expand scholarships to additional children who are waiting for help.

Bethel Evangelical Secondary, Day student: $100

Bethel Evangelical Secondary, Boarding student: $1,000

Your gift provides:

• Tuition for the entire year

• Uniforms

• Textbooks and workbooks

• School supplies

• Meals and housing for boarding students

Every contribution, whether full sponsorship or a shared scholarship gift, strengthens a child’s future and supports the long-term stability of these Christ-centered schools.

Growing the Mission: What’s New This Year

Thanks to last year’s success, our partners have asked FPC-Bristol to help expand the number of students receiving assistance. Many who were sponsored last year are thriving, and we want to ensure they continue without fear of losing their place. At the same time, new students are waiting, hoping for the chance to begin school this fall. This is a moment of growth—one we are honored to embrace together.

How to Give & Stay Connected

To donate, please include “August Ethiopia Mission Focus”  on the memo line of a check and indicate whether your gift is for an elementary or secondary student. Online giving includes a drop-down menu for easy selection.

If you would like to receive updates about the student you sponsor, please drop a note to Peggy Hill at peggyhill145@gmail.com. Donors will receive news about their student at least three times throughout the school year, and (NEW!!) will have the opportunity to send encouraging correspondence to their student.
