On Sunday, February 15, at 3:00 p.m., the First Presbyterian Church of Bristol, Tennessee, continues its 2008-2009 Arts Series with a concert featuring Matthew Frederick, music professor at Emory and Henry College, accompanied by Vicki Fey.
A native of Slatington, Pennsylvania, Matthew Frederick attended West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. Upon graduation he began graduate studies at Auburn University where he served as the trumpet teaching assistant while earning his masters degree in trumpet performance. Following Auburn, he continued his education at The University of Texas where he completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance.
Beginning in the fall of 2003, he became an assistant professor of trumpet and director of instrumental studies at Emory & Henry College. In addition to his duties at Emory & Henry College, Dr. Frederick is currently the acting principal trumpet of the Symphony of the Mountains and has performed as principal trumpet of the Johnson City Symphony, first trumpet player at The Barter Theater, and is an active lecturer on Civil War Brass Bands as well as serving as a clinician for school music programs. Some of Dr. Frederick’s brass band arrangements can be heard on the CD entitled “Cheer Boys Cheer” released by the Moravian Music Foundation.
Vicki Fey serves as Director of Music Ministries with husband Steve at First Presbyterian Church. A Florida native, she received a Bachelor of Music degree from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida and a Master of Music degree from North Texas State University. Vicki serves as adjunct organ/harpsichord faculty at King College and accompanist for Voices of the Mountains Chorus and is principal keyboard for Symphony of the Mountains. She also teaches private piano, does free-lance accompanying in the area, is a member of the regional arts board Arts Alliance Mountain Empire, and is Past-President to the National Executive Board of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians.
The Arts Series of the First Presbyterian Church strives to share with the community events that enrich and inspire the life of the people of Bristol, share our unique and marvelous facilities, and encourage the artistically gifted of our region and beyond.
